Grass Roots Views of the Political Scene

It's hard to believe that the "Political Season" is upon us again, and it is time to sort the wheat from the chaff. Parish and State elections were held in October, with the National elections coming in the Fall of 2006. Look to this page for the author's opinions as well as guest quotes on the hot topics! Here's one:

It's not worth the hassle of "teaching the Republicans a lesson" by putting the democrats back in power for another go-around.  Do you want the President to have the ability to get another Supreme court nominee through before 2008?  What about all the appellate court and district court nominees?

Future political scientist Brett Bennett, II, contemplates the ramifications of the Democrat party gaining control of the congress.  Cut and Run? Terrorists in the streets here in America?   Or worse....

The political climate in Louisiana has been in a state of constant change for the last three hundred years. Reformers have always opposed the back room boys in pendulum swings of change over the years. One thing, though, has remained constant. That is taking for granted the support of various constituant groups of the political parties. Since the 1960's, the Democratic party has been an uneasy alliance of disparate groups of people, often with different objectives. The Republican party had been portrayed in the past as the party of Big Business and the Fat Cats. But TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!! To take any group for granted now is to do so with political risk.

This does not mean, though, that we have to pander to all the special interest groups, and it does not mean that the fringe elements on either the Left or the Right get to run the center out of town.  We must stand up for our ideals, and for the values that have made America great.

St. Tammany Parish now has the ability to elect Republican officials both locally and into statewide offices. This concept was unthinkable just 20 years ago. What has changed? Did all the Fat Cats move north of the lake? OR DID THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY MOVE TO THE LEFT OF THE NATION???
Sheriff Jack Strain has been re-elected. He is a young professional who has modernized the department and continues to make needed improvements in technology, professionalism and officer quality. Our parish deserves to advance. Quality of life in St. Tammany is important to us all.
The national Democratic Party is floundering as never before, but the spin doctors and media apologists are as fluent and light on their feet as ever. United States Senator Bob Graham among others, complains that President Bush led us to war on the basis of those misleading "sixteen words", but the vote in congress to support Bush happened long before that. We are all in for a fun season of Politics at its best!
